Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Oral Biology and Microbiomics

Job Purpose

  1. Succession planning for the retirement of the current job holder who is a Visiting Professor of the University, and to sustain and perpetuate the vigorous research program in oral microbiology and infection which has been initiated through: 1) the institution of the University funded, Oral Microbiome Research group 2)  development of Master of Dental Surgery (MDS)  program  currently undergoing accreditation  3)  PhD studies of academic staff members 3) collaborative work with local, and regional institutes;
  2. Contribute to the  microbiology learning and teaching program of the undergraduate BDS course
Main accountabilities & expectations
  1. Lead and set direction for the University funded, Oral Microbiome Research group which is in its second year of growth
  2. Research supervision of the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) students for the following four programs that are currently under accreditation, and planned to begin in September 2019 : a) Oral Surgery, b) Prosthodontics c) Periodontics and d) Endodontics
  3. Contribute to the  microbiology learning and teaching program of the undergraduate BDS course
  4. Assist in research supervision of PhD students enrolled in either internal or external programs, and working on oral microbiota and related disciplines
  5. Apply for external and internal research grants and assist colleagues in grant proposal development in oral microbiology, as and when necessary
  6. Work in conjunction and liaise with the Director of Research and other researchers  in the Sharjah Institute of Medical Research (SIMR) to develop a robust program of oral microbiology
  7. Advice, assist and collaborate, as appropriate, with all other  researchers in the College and the university, on matters relating to oral microbiology research and discovery

  1. Generate relevant reports and ensure that they are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the department's requirements and standards.
Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
Preferred Qualification & Experience

  • It is imperative that the candidate possess a PhD degree in microbiology/ oral microbiology from a recognised institute
  • Possession of  a clinical degree  in dentistry or medicine is highly desirable
  • Those applying for an Associate or a full professor position should possess a significant track-record of uninterrupted publications in high impact venues, and fulfil the University of Sharjah minimum qualifications for such positions
