Director of Research Institute of Humanities & Social Sciences (RIHSS)

Job tasks & Expectations

 

  • The director is the executive officer of the institute.
  • Leeds strategic development of research and special graduate studies in the institute
  • Chairs the Executive Committee of the institute
  • Represents the institute in all matters related to research and special graduate studies outside the institute
  • Contributes to the development of international research agreements in the research areas of the institute
  • Develops, Overseas and manages the institute budget, personnel and resources
  • Approves, at the level of the institute, all internal decisions involving appointments and resources, financial or physical
  • Recommends priority research areas and the formation of research entities within the institute.
  • Supports the vice chancellor in collaborating with the community to increase resources for research and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the UAE.
  • Recommends to the Vice-Chancellor appointment of associate institute directors, research center directors, research lab directors and coordinators of groups and center-affiliated laboratories. 
  • Recommends to the Vice Chancellor approval of sabbatical leave for researchers in the Research Institute. 
  • Recommends external members to the advisory board and chairs the board meetings.
  • Appoints the external members of the advisory boards of the research centers and research laboratories.

Promotes innovation and technology transfer for the benefit of the community in the research areas of the institute

 

 

Required Skills :

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the academic research environment and current issues in research administration, policy and funding.
  • Ideal candidate will have a successful track record of leadership in a complex university, and be skilled in strategy development, enterprise and organizational change.
  • He/ she will combine the ability to act as an ambassador for the University of Sharjah with an effective approach to manage and share accountability across a senior team. 
  • Proven capability to develop and deliver a strategic plan for Research.
  • Work in a collaborative and solutions focused manner to achieve win-win outcomes.
  • Professional spoken and written business English communication with clear presentation skills and the ability to influence.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS office applications.
  • Fluent in both Arabic and English languages 

     

 

Preferred Qualification & Experience:

  • Must be a full professor with a proven record of academic experience, including teaching, research and community service, in area of humanities and social sciences.
  • Must have a demonstrated record of research leadership.
  • Must have significant research administration experience.
  • Must have experience in academic program development and accreditation.
  • Must have a demonstrated record of substantial contributions to university research system/policy development
  • Must have integrity and excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills
