Job Purpose
|
The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking to hire full time Lab Officer to maintain the Biological and Environmental labs in RISE. He/she will be responsible for maintaining clean rooms as well as labs for the environmental research groups. The Lab Officer should have biological and/or environmental background and expertise.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
The Lab Officer will be responsible for:
- Follow all University policies regulations for safe working procedures
- maintain the tissue culture and general laboratories in workable condition
- be able to main the cell culture in liquid nitrogen
- be able to conduct regular check on all material, equipment and supplies
- be competent to perform PCR amplification and purification of DNA
- be willing to learn and then perform DNA sequencing using sanger sequencer
- be able to order the consumables for the tissue culture and general laboratories.
- be able to maintain the environmental labs in working order
- be able to report on any damages of any of the material, equipment and any incident in the laboratories
- be able to conduct microbiological tests for environmental quality purposes.
- be able to conduct water and wastewater characteristics studies.
- be willing to contribute to any additional work assigned by supervisor.

Desirable Requirements
|
- A minimum of Bachelor level in Biotechnology or Environmental sciences
- Must have strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures
- Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
