Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking to hire

a full time contract research assistant. The research assistant will work within the smart grid research group and will assist the research group members in the research projects conducted by the group members. The research assistant will be responsible for

1.       Smart grid laboratory.

2.       Arranging the laboratory equipment.

3.       Running the experimental setups and simulation software.

4.       Helping the group members for technical reports and publications.


Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Assist in the development of the Smart Grid.
  2. Manage the Smart Grid laboratory and Equipment.
  3. Help in the ongoing projects in the Smart Grid laboratory. 
  4. Set up and run the experiments related to microgrid/smart grid projects.
  5. Help the group members in ongoing projects/research work.
  6. Perform modeling and simulation of power systems.
  7. Write technical reports and papers.
  8. Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Director of the Institute


Job Specific Accountabilities --
Required Skills --
Preferred Qualification & Experience

1.      Bachelor/Master/PhD in Engineering in the relevant disciplines

2.      Ability to manage the laboratory.

3.      Ability to conduct experimental work.

4.      Ability to model/simulate using Matlab/Simulink (power system toolbox).

5.      Knowledge/ability to work on real-time simulator including Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) and Rapid-Control-Prototyping (RCP), (using dSPACE and/or OPAL-RT).

6.      Knowledge/ability to model/simulate power electronics/machine drive systems, (inverter circuits), and their integration with power systems and machine drive.
