Main accountabilities & expectations
|
We seek a candidate with a basic degree in Physics and Astronomy and with a proven research record of planning, obtaining and analyzing observations to investigate profound questions about the planets and their moons, together with their ring systems, gas clouds, atmospheres, and magnetospheres, how planetary systems formed, and whether they were -- or could be -- capable of supporting life are welcome to apply. Experience in planetary space exploration is highly sought in light of the Emirates Mars Mission.
The candidate is expected to:
· Teach undergraduate and graduate students in Physics, Astrophysics and Planetary science.
· Contribute to the development of new courses/programs.
· Supervise Master-students, PhD students and Postdoctoral fellows.
· Conduct scientific research that serve the community and contribute to current trends.
Develop ambitious interdisciplinary research projects.

Job Specific Accountabilities
|
The successful candidate will be positioned to
participate in the newly opened "Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space
Sciences, and Technology (SAASST)" and the MSc in Astronomy and Space
Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, externally
funded research program, show excellence or promise of excellence in teaching
at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and play an active role in SAASST's
highly successful astronomy outreach initiatives.

Required Skills
|
Observational astronomers in the Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy focus on active galactic nuclei, star formation, neutron stars, X-ray binaries, and pulsars.
Theoreticians focus on dark matter, early Universe cosmology, general relativity, and the analysis of measurements of the cosmic microwave background and large scale structure.

Preferred Qualification & Experience
|
- Ph.D. in Astronomy along with relevant postdoctoral experience.
· Evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching.
· Teaching experience in both traditional and alternative (e.g., online) learning environments.
· Publication record in high impact journals.
Experience in undergraduate, graduate students supervision.
