Job Purpose
|
To supervise, maintain and upgrade the Petroleum
Geosciences & Remote Sensing laboratory facilities, and to provide support
to faculty and students using the laboratories.
|
Main accountabilities & expectations
|
- Preparing experiments and participating in the development of experiments, while ensuring all the safety requirements in the laboratory are in place.
- Managing and supervising lab facilities for conducting weekly geological and geophysical laboratory courses by arranging proper schedule.
- Providing lab related technical support to students and instructors during laboratory sessions.
- Working with faculty to develop and fabricate new experiments and demos.
- Supporting faculty and students in the planning and execution of student projects as required.
- Supporting faculty and students in the planning and execution of outfield experiments and surveys.
- Assisting inventory, and ordering laboratory equipment and consumables as per required specification.
- Receiving, installing and calibrating laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Preparing and maintaining an electronic database for details of equipment in the laboratory.
- Demonstrating the use of machines, tools and equipment within the Petroleum Geosciences laboratories.
- Maintaining equipment and machines in good working order and recommending improvements as appropriate to maintain standards of accuracy and reliability.
- Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and updating all type laboratory software and also demonstrating how to use it.
- Observe and reinforce safety and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the laboratory.
- Engage with concerned faculty in research on Geosciences.
- Invigilate department examinations, including final examination.
- Participate in the departmental activities like organization of conferences, seminars, festivals etc

Job Specific Accountabilities

Required Skills
|
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
- Strong computing skills, including programming and working knowledge of relevant programs.
- Technical problem solving and data analysis
- Problem solving using geological and geophysical experiments
- Previous experience in geological or geophysical Laboratory
- Experience in conducting different geophysical surveys like seismic Reflection and Refraction methods, ERT, MASW, GPR, Magnetic and Electromagnetic methods, well logging is a plus.
- Experience in Seismic data processing and interpretation software like Landmark Promax, Kingdom suit, RadExPro, OpendTect, Seismic Unix is a plus.
- Experience in microscopy of rocks and minerals, maintain microscopes and help in archiving samples is a plus.
- Experience in grinding and sieving laboratory processes for rocks and minerals is a plus.
- Experience in geology fieldwork using compass and geological maps, especially measuring structure elements in faults and folds and sedimentary layers is a plus.
- Experience in any of the following software, EVA, TOPAS, ROCKWORK, Mineql is a plus.
- Deep knowledge, skills or experiences in oil and gas well logging interpretation is a plus.
- Experience in GIS or Remote Sensing programs is a plus

Preferred Qualification & Experience
|
- Minimum B.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics or related fields
- A minimum of 2 years working in the field of higher education
- MSc in Geology or Geophysics or related fields is a plus
