Job Purpose

To provide support to the library's administration and help provide accessible learning resources and information services that supports the students, faculty and staff at the University of Sharjah in developing academic assignments, research projects, and teaching material.

Main accountabilities & expectations
  1. Perform circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, registering patrons and collecting fines.
  2. Help users by assisting them in searching and locating required information from various sources to fulfil their needs and train them to locate required information and books needed.
  3. Maintain circulation data and prepare regular statistical reports.
  4. Respond to students, faculty and staff enquiries by determining the required information and searching through standard reference materials to support educational activities, assignments and research.
  5. Train users on how to locate required reference books and information related to their study and research needs.
  6. Oversee and maintain the performance of circulation equipment and request repairs when required.
  7. Explain to the students how to use the online catalogue on the university website to get the required book(s).
  8. Provide the Daily services to guide and supervise the library borrowing process.
  9. Ensure that library services meet the needs of particular groups of users (e.g. faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students).
  10. Follow University of Sharjah's library standards and guidelines at all times.
  11. Prepare various reports, lists, and statistics related to The Library when requested by the line manager.

Preferred Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Library Science, Library Administration, Library Information Systems, or a relevant discipline.
  • 2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
  • Priority is to UAE Nationals.
