Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (RIHSS) is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher. The researcher will work within the Center for Family and Child Studies (CFCS) in (RIHSS) and assist its members in relevant research projects. The researcher will also be responsible for assisting with:

  • Building and enhancing the capacity and capability of the Family and Child Research Team
  • Collecting and analyzing data and writing technical reports.
  • Building family scales and indicators
  • Developing and designing family policies

Main accountabilities & expectations

Consistent with UoS policies, regulations, and work procedures, the candidate shall assist the research team at the Center for Family and Child Studies in :

  • Carrying out studies and family surveys and collecting data for various research projects as well as analyzing them
  • Studying, in collaboration with relevant family institutions, the needs of such groups as the elderly, parents, mothers, adolescents, people of determination, and the youth
  • Building comprehensive statistical indicators that relate to family and child issues in accordance with local, regional and international standards.
  • Building social and family standards such as those for marital compatibility, divorce, stress, anxiety, happiness, and family cohesion.
  • Adapting scientific tests and measurements to the local UAE environment.
  • Building best professional practices for dealing with family issues.
  • Training research assistants and students, especially graduates, on how to conduct social research.
  • Publishing research findings and presenting them in conferences and meetings
  • Performing any other related tasks as requested.

Preferred Qualification & Experience
  • PhD in family counseling/ family psychology/family social work/ or family sociology or related fields
  • Experience in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and presenting them.
  • Experience in managing research projects and submitting applications for external grants 

Job Location University of Sharjah (Main)

The candidate shall have:

  • Relevant publications and research experience.
  • The ability to manage a project.
  • Communication and writing skills in English and Arabic.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • The ability to learn how to use new data analysis, visualization, and reporting software.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment and readiness to receive constructive feedback from colleagues.
