Job Purpose

The UOS High Energy Physics (HEP) group at the the Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) has an opening for a full-time Research Assistant (RA). The selected candidate will work on the CERN-LHC physics with the High Physics Group (HEP) to fulfill the UoS commitments with the ATLAS Collaboration at CERN. The envisaged RA will work focusing on particle physics at highest energies at the actual collider such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future colliders such as: HL-LHC and ILC. In addition, the RA is expected to participate in developing the applications of machine learning and advanced statistical methods in data analysis at colliders. The ideal candidate should have a strong motivation for fundamental research, and has graduated in Particle Physics. Additional experience with data analysis, teamwork and computer programming will be with a great advantage.

Main accountabilities & expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following tasks:


  1. The Higgs Dark Photon (ZH) analysis in the ATLAS experiment.
  2. Give presentations on a weekly basis within the ATLAS groups where the UOS HEP is involved (UAE-ATLAS Cluster and ZH group at CERN).
  3. Participation in the UOS ATLAS remote Shifts: Class 2 and 3 OTPs.
  4. Participation in the activities of the ATLAS Physics Modelling (PMG) Group.

Preferred Qualification & Experience

  1. Master degree in the area of particle physics.
  2. Previous research experience with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) physics or equivalent expertise.
  3. High motivation to join the Higgs/ Dark Matter searches analysis in the ATLAS experiment and to participate in ATLAS operation.

Job Location University of Sharjah (Main)

  1. Very good academic record in particle physics.
  2. Strong knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience with C++, Pyton and high-performance computing.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
