Job Purpose
|
To establish and maintain software performance by analyzing and modifying existing software as well as designing, constructing and testing end-user applications/systems that meet user needs through software programming languages, in addition to working closely with clients and cross-functional departments to communicate project statuses and proposals.
|
Main accountabilities & expectations
|
- Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC) through planning, identifying requirements, designing, building, documenting, testing, deploying, and maintaining software applications.
- Develop software solutions by studying needs, investigating problem areas, conferring with end-users and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes to ensure software efficiency.
- Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards and programming.
- Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development and proposed solutions.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
- Analyze, design tests and test software development methodology in an agile environment.
- Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing software and platforms.
- Obtain and license software by obtaining required information from vendors, recommending purchases, and testing and approving products.
- Collaborate across the SAASST with directors, business users, project managers and other engineers to achieve the most suitable solutions.
- Monitor the department's technical projects milestones completion, ensure that all projects are progressing according to the approved plans, and escalate critical matters/decisions to reach an alignment to execute projects on time and avoid delays.
- Keep up to date with new developments and advancements in the market in order to suggest suitable solutions and improvements at the academy and serve users better.
- Prepare various reports, analyses, and statistics related to the Radio and Space Technology Observatories and Laboratories Department when requested.

Required Skills
|
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to develop software in Java, Ruby on Rails, C++, or other programming languages
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate).
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Proficiency in software engineering tools.
- Ability to handle software troubleshooting.
- Project management skills.
- High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance.
- Ability to document requirements and specifications.
- Flexibility and ability to function effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Requirements
|
- Minimum of master’s degree in Computer Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- 6-8 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
- Priority is to UAE Nationals.
