Job Purpose

To establish and maintain software performance by analyzing and modifying existing software as well as designing, constructing and testing end-user applications/systems that meet user needs through software programming languages, in addition to working closely with clients and cross-functional departments to communicate project statuses and proposals.

Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC) through planning, identifying requirements, designing, building, documenting, testing, deploying, and maintaining software applications.
  2. Develop software solutions by studying needs, investigating problem areas, conferring with end-users and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes to ensure software efficiency.
  3. Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards and programming.
  4. Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development and proposed solutions.
  5. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
  6. Analyze, design tests and test software development methodology in an agile environment.
  7. Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing software and platforms.
  8. Obtain and license software by obtaining required information from vendors, recommending purchases, and testing and approving products.
  9. Collaborate across the SAASST with directors, business users, project managers and other engineers to achieve the most suitable solutions.
  10. Monitor the department's technical projects milestones completion, ensure that all projects are progressing according to the approved plans, and escalate critical matters/decisions to reach an alignment to execute projects on time and avoid delays.
  11. Keep up to date with new developments and advancements in the market in order to suggest suitable solutions and improvements at the academy and serve users better.
  12. Prepare various reports, analyses, and statistics related to the Radio and Space Technology Observatories and Laboratories Department when requested.
Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
  • Ability to develop software in Java, Ruby on Rails, C++, or other programming languages
  • Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly.
  • Proficiency in software engineering tools.
  • Ability to handle software troubleshooting.
  • Project management skills.
  • High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance.
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications.
  • Flexibility and ability to function effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
  • Minimum of master’s degree in Computer Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • 6-8 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
  • Priority is to UAE Nationals.
