Job Purpose

  • The College of Communication requires five (5) professor/associate/assistant professors to teach courses related to the digital/social media, digital media design, emerging technologies and data analytics for news, PR and creative industries. These new posts will support the modernization of the existing degrees, particularly the BA in Digital Media, as well as the expansion of new provisions in areas such as media management, social media engagement, digital transformation and digital marketing among others.

     
  • One or more of these positions are expected to become joint appointments with other collages such as business administration, computing and science. These posts will be used to develop research-lead teaching in areas such as social media, digital transformation, data analytics, data journalism, digital humanities and innovation and enterprise. The people hired will bring about additional skill sets into our delivery and teaching, which we expect to help improve employability and entrepreneurship within the college.

     
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to produce outcomes that clearly and tangibly can enhance the college's world ranking position by making very strong contributions in terms of world-class research and teaching excellency (Scopus or A peer-reviewed journal articles). These outcomes can be publications in top referee journals or equivalent in terms of practice.

 


Main accountabilities & expectations
  • Candidates are expected to teach according to university's regulations at the level of the bachelor and Master's program offered by the collage.
  • Candidates are expected to support and supervise existing Master's students and PhD candidates as well as be prepared to teach in new programs to be developed jointly with other colleges.
  • Candidates are expected to be research active and fulfil the university targets according to set outcomes and publications.
  • Candidates are expected to apply for internal and external research and practice-based grants
  • Candidates are expected to engage with community service including potential admin and leadership roles at the university.

Essential:

  • Be research active and demonstrate the ability or potential to publish in top ranking journals or equivalent outcomes that contribute to the UoS ranking position;
  • Have experience or demonstrable knowledge in the production of content for digital/social media, digital media design, emerging technologies and data analytics for news and PR
  • Be able to offer excellent practice-based teaching in the above mentioned areas;

     

    Desirable:
  • Have experience or demonstrable knowledge in teaching online/distance learning
  • Have made contributions with community engagement and administration
  • Be fluent in Arabic, English or both.
