Job Purpose

To provide systems support and advice to all users at the Disability Resource Center including student, academic and non-academic staff members. In addition, contribute in the selection and implementation of advanced systems that can help develop and improve the teaching process for students with disabilities.

Main accountabilities & expectations
  1. Design, implement and automate information management procedures and customize solutions for the Department when needed.
  2. Convert articles, books, research, lectures and all academic materials related to the curriculum for people with disabilities into programs and formats that are appropriate with each type of disability (such as a screen reader, Braille, audio programs, etc.)
  3. Encourage and assist students with disabilities to use the latest supporting technologies and programs.
  4. Help users understand the system by providing technical support and assistance, and provide technical support to disability resource rooms, as well as update and upgrade all current technologies and programs.
  5. Handle any required software/system upgrades and updates to ensure that they are functional and accessible.
  6. Design and update efficient database and online webpage for Disability Resource Center on UOS website.
  7. Troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnose and solve hardware or software faults.
  8. Support the center's administration and staff by identifying, evaluating, selecting supporting and maintaining suitable systems solutions to ensure its availability and usability.
  9. Continuously search for the latest technologies and software that enhance the services of Disability Resource Center.
  10. Prepare various reports, lists and statistics related to the Disability Resource Center when requested by the line manager.

Required Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of operating the required software/hardware
  • Able to understand the meaning of common error messages and explain them to users in simple language.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines.

  • Excellent listening and questioning skills, combined with the ability to interact confidently with clients to establish what the problem is and explain the solution.

  • Excellent proficiency in MS office applications.

Preferred Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a relevant discipline.
  • 2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
  • Priority is to UAE Nationals.
