Job Purpose

The Clinical Sciences Department at the University of Sharjah College of Medicine (https://www.sharjah.ac.ae/en/academics/Colleges/Medicine/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to expanding its virology program, with a particular emphasis on viral pathogenesis, and is seeking candidates at the Assistant, Associate or Full-Professor level. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research on viral pathogenesis includes, but is not limited to, virus-host cell interactions, viral-immune system interplay, viral oncogenesis, and emerging viruses. Candidates using molecular, cellular and/or genetic approaches to investigate viral diseases will be preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, well-funded research program; engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research as well as teaching undergraduate and graduate students.

Main accountabilities & expectations
  • The candidate will devote his time for teaching and for conducting research in the college of Medicine.
  • Manage projects and serve as an expert in viral diseases.
  • Maintain an independent and internationally competitive research program.
  • Supervise postdocs, graduate students and technical personnel in research projects in viral diseases.
  •  Apply for external funding - both national and international
  •  Actively participate in academic, industry and health care collaborations
  •  Teach courses in his/her field of expertise to both undergraduate and graduate students

Required Skills

Desirable Requirements Applicants must have a Ph.D. in virology. The candidate must present track record of excellence in teaching undergraduate medical students, as well as graduate students in molecular medicine. He/She should have a successful postdoctoral training experience with an excellent record of research activities, and strong potential for obtaining competitive external grants to support their research. A strong of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of potential for teaching is required. The successful applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
