Job Purpose

  • The Sharjah Institute for Medical Research (SIMR) is currently recruiting a research assistant to contribute to its research activities in health services research and practice-based research. We are looking to appoint a suitable candidate with training, experience and achievements in public health and health services research.
  • The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary research environment consisting of health services, public health, and pharmacy practice researchers.
  • The successful candidate will help plan, support, coordinate, and contribute to health services and practice-based research projects.


Main accountabilities & expectations

The responsibilities of the research assistant will include and will not be limited to:

  1. Assist in project management.
  2. Collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff and project coordinators to ensure the timely delivery of key project milestones and high-quality outputs.
  3. Prepare drafts of research ethical approvals
  4. Prepare drafts of research plans for grant applications
  5. Prepare drafts of research reports for publication
  6. Contribute to field surveys and interview guides and administration of surveys and qualitative data collection (i.e., interviews, focus groups)
  7. Develop, modify and update data collection tools and software for different projects.
  8. Lead on the data management and cleaning of datasets.
  9. Analyze cross-sectional data under faculty supervision.
  10. Produce statistical outputs, tables and visualizations of findings.
  11. Develop and deliver both written and visual outputs that are appropriate for different stakeholders.
  12. Write and draft scientific reports
  13. Assist in the writing of academic manuscripts after data collection

The ideal candidate should have a master’s level degree in public health, pharmacy practice, or a closely related health field.

Essential:

  1. Hold a master's level degree in either public health, pharmacy practice, or a related field
  2. Expertise in statistical data analysis and data management.
  3. Knowledgeable with qualitative methods, data collection and analysis,
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and preferably Arabic.
  5. Excellent organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work pro-actively and independently.

Preferred:

  1. Knowledgeable in using qualitative software such as NVivo or MAXQDA
  2. Proficient with statistical software such as SPSS/SAS/ others
