Job Purpose

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the level of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor commencing September 2023.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in one of the disciplines of Environmental Health Sciences with an outstanding record of academic and research performance.
Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Teach a range of core courses and laboratory skills related to environmental health sciences with emphasis on Food Safety Management (food quality and safety, food microbiology, food chemistry, food laws and regulations, epidemiology of food borne illnesses) for undergraduate and graduate students.
  2. Open to teach general environmental health courses e.g. Introduction to Environmental Health, Pesticides and Pollution, etc.
  3. Supervise senior and graduate students in their graduation projects and dissertations.
  4. Actively engage in research and community service
  5. Administer students during their field training
  6. Evaluate students' learning using various methods of assessments
  7. Advise students on academic matters.
  8. Actively participate in departmental assignments and student activities as assigned by the department chair or college dean.
  9. Serve on department, faculty and university committees as appointed or elected.
Required Skills
  1. Fluency in English at the general and professional levels is essential.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Very good computer skills (especially Microsoft Office applications).
Desirable Requirements
  1. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in one of the disciplines of Environmental Health Sciences.
  2. Minimum 3 years' experience of teaching in the field.
  3. Experience in teaching courses related food quality and safety, food microbiology, food chemistry, food laws and regulations, epidemiology of food borne illnesses is required.
  4. Experience in teaching courses related to environmental health sciences (Introduction to environmental health, pesticides and pollution, etc.) is preferred.
  5. Evidence of supervision for MSc students.
  6. Evidence of active contributions to his/her field through publishing in internationally recognized and peer-reviewed journals and participating in conferences, seminars, and other forums.
  7. Experience in credit hour system.
