Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow. Selected candidate(s) will collaborate with the members of the Distributed and Networked Systems group (within the Dept. of Computer Engineering and the Dept. of Electrical Engineering) on research projects related to Wireless Communications, Communication Systems and Communication Networks. Candidates must have completed their PhD in this area, and must demonstrate strong mathematical, programming and simulation skills, a good understanding of optimization and machine learning, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates must also have a proven record of publications in the top journals. Academic excellence, independence, motivation, professional work ethics and leadership potential are expected. Interaction with and mentoring of graduate students is also expected. The appointment is for a fixed term period of one year, with extension possible subject to satisfactory performance and fund availability. 

Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Defining research problems, and solution methodologies.
  2. Testing and evaluating designs/systems/algorithms/protocols.
  3. Analyzing and interpreting results.
  4. Writing research articles for top journals.
  5. Mentoring graduate students
  6. Collaborating with research group members on research projects.
  7. Participating in writing research proposals.
  8. Following all University policies and regulations for safe working procedures.

Preferred Qualification & Experience
  1. Ph.D. degree in the area of Electrical/Computer Engineering, with the specialization in Wireless Communications, Communication Systems or Communication Networks.
  2. Publication record in the top journals.
  3. Knowledge in programming and simulations.
  4. Strong mathematical background, including optimization and machine learning.
  5. Excellent command of spoken and written English language.
  6. Must have strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  7. Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
