Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate to work within the Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics research group which is a multidisciplinary research group consisting of members with expertise in cellular biology, molecular pathology, genetics and genomics, mathematics, computer science and bioinformatics.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, hard-working and well-organized to support the projects from the various members of the Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics research group. The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in biological or life sciences with proven expertise in cellular biology, protein biochemistry and molecular pathology.
He/she should have proven experience in the following:

1)      Cell culture working with primary and immortal cell lines and ability to generate stable transgenic cell lines

2)      Cellular and molecular biology with experience in applying PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning genes into various vectors including expression vectors and cellular localization

3)      Protein biochemistry including Western blotting, Flow cytometry, co-immunoprecipitation and EMSA

4)      Molecular pathology including DNA/RNA extraction from FFPE archival tissue and NGS library construction using Fluidigm system

5)      Functional genomics techniques including single, double and triple transient transfection and familiarly in running reporter assays such as Dual Glo and Titre Glo assays

6)      Running Next Generation Sequencing for Genomics, Transcriptomics, Metagenomics and Epigenetics studies

He/she should be a good team player and have experience in basic data analysis from the various techniques listed above.

The Post Doc should be multi-tasking and can demonstrate the ability to work with multiple techniques. Hands on experience evidenced by educational background and publications in leading journals is necessary.​

Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Manage and support the day to day running of the various projects by members of the Bioinformatics & Functional Genomics research group
  2. Manage the ordering, stock taking and budget as well as other admin tasks for the Bioinformatics & Functional Genomics research group
  3. Perform research projects assigned to him/her by the group members
  4. Carry out research and development to develop novel methodologies related to various competencies required within the group
  5. Conduct their own research project assigned by the group
  6. ​Provide technical supervision for junior RA and students associated with members of the group​

Required Skills

  • Cell culture working with primary and immortal cell lines and ability to generate stable transgenic cell lines. Familiarity with primary epithelial and fibroblast asthma cell lines as well as cancer cell lines is a distinct advantage
  • Cellular and molecular biology with experience in conducting PCR, qRT-PCR for gene expression, cloning genes into various vectors including expression vectors such as pcDNA3 and cellular localization using mixture of microscopy and flow cytometry
  • Protein biochemistry including Western blotting, Flow cytometry, co-immunoprecipitation and EMSA
  • Molecular pathology including DNA/RNA extraction from FFPE archival tissue and NGS library construction using Fluidigm system
  • Functional genomics techniques including single, double and triple transient transfection and familiarly in running reporter assays such as Dual Glo and Titre Glo assays

Desirable Requirements

Preferred qualifications are underlined:

  1. PhD in biomedical or life science with proven experience in cellular and molecular techniques
  2. Experience in research and/or academic settings (published articles in the field of biomedical science).
  3. Some co-supervisory experience of student or junior RA
