Job Purpose
|
The Department of Chemistry of the College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing Fall 2024-2025 (Sep. 2024).
The selected candidate will pursue a systematic program of research and scholarship, curricular improvement, and participation in service activities, including committee service, student advising, and building industry relationships.
The candidate should have a B.Sc. in Chemistry, an M.Sc., and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from an accredited high-ranked institution, with a specialty in Polymer Chemistry with outstanding academic and research performance records.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
- Teach a range of core courses related to Organic Chemistry, emphasizing Polymer Organic Chemistry for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Teach various General Chemistry courses for chemistry, health sciences, and medical-foundation undergraduate students.
- Supervise senior undergraduate and graduate chemistry students in their graduation projects and Thesis.
- Actively engage in research and community service.
- Evaluate students' learning using various methods of assessment.
- Advise students on academic matters.
- Actively participate in departmental assignments and student activities as the department chair or college dean assigns.
- Serve on Department, College, and University committees as appointed or elected.

Required Skills
|
Skills:
- Fluency in English at the general and professional levels is essential.
- Excellent professional writing skills (research proposals, scientific reports, etc.) and presentation skills.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications and softwares in his field).
- Strong interpersonal skills that can produce effective professor-student interactions.
- Experience using learning management systems in education, e.g., Blackboard, etc.
- Behavioral competencies include adaptability, decisiveness, initiative, perseverance, organizational skills, stress management, and valuing profession and diversity.
Qualifications:
- The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with a specialty in Polymer Chemistry from an accredited high-ranked institution.
- Minimum of 2 years experience of teaching in the field at the University level.
- Experience in teaching courses related to General and Organic Polymer Chemistry.
- Evidence of active contributions to his/her field through publishing in internationally recognized and peer-reviewed journals and participating in conferences, seminars, and other forums in related polymer chemistry expertise.
Has experience in credit hour system.
