Job Purpose
|
The Clinical Sciences Department at the University of Sharjah, College of Medicine (https://www.sharjah.ac.ae/en/academics/Colleges/Medicine/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to expanding its virology program, with a particular emphasis on viral pathogenesis, and is seeking candidates at the Assistant, Associate or Full-Professor level.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose research on viral pathogenesis includes, but is not limited to, virus-host cell interactions, viral-immune system interplay, viral oncogenesis, and emerging viruses. Candidates using molecular, cellular and/or genetic approaches to investigate viral diseases will be preferred.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, well-funded research program; engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research as well as teaching undergraduate and graduate students.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
The primary responsibility of this academic position is to:
- Participate in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students.
- Deliver courses in their specialized field.
- Conduct independent and internationally competitive research.
- Supervise postdocs, graduate students, and technical personnel in research projects.
- Obtain external funding from national and international sources.
- Engage in academic, industry and health care collaborations.
- Perform administrative obligations within the college and university.
- Serve as a viral disease expert and contribute actively to community initiatives.

Required Skills
|
Skills:
- Understanding of various teaching methods, instructional strategies, and learning theories to facilitate student learning and engagement.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the subject matter being taught, including key concepts, theories, and applications.
- A strong understanding of virology principles, pathogenesis, and host interactions.
- Proficiency in various laboratory techniques used in virology research, such as viral culture, molecular biology techniques, immunological assays, and microscopy.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other scientists, clinicians, and public health officials, to address complex virology-related challenges.
- Building positive relationships with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders, and demonstrating empathy, patience, and respect in interactions.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development through ongoing learning, reflection, and incorporation of feedback from peers and students.
Qualifications:
- Applicants
should be medical graduates with a terminal degree (Ph.D) in virology.
- The
candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of excellence in teaching both
undergraduate medical students and graduate students in molecular medicine.
- Additionally, candidates must have completed successful postdoctoral training,
displaying an outstanding research portfolio, robust record of peer-reviewed
publications and a promising ability to secure external grants.
- The preferred
candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills,
along with a proven capacity for administrative and collaborative teamwork.
