Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) is seeking to hire a Bioinformatics postdoctoral research associate. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing and managing code for lab projects, ranging from simulating high throughput genomic data (NGS and Microarray) to analyzing OMICs data (genomics, transcriptomics and epigenetics) generated by teams in the institute and from publicly available biological databases. The Post Doc, under the supervision of Principal Investigator and/or research scientist executes several tasks such as programming and implementing bioinformatics pipeline, testing and validating new tools and running pilot analysis. The Post Doc will also execute several tasks such as NGS and proteomics data analysis especially variants annotation and development of biological databases. Hands on experience evidenced by educational background and publications in leading journals is necessary. Transcripts must be submitted along the CV in one document. ​

Main accountabilities & expectations

a)      Programming and implementation of bioinformatics pipeline for genomics, transcriptomics and epigenetics

b)      Testing and validating new tools

c)      Running pilot analysis

d)      Performing advanced analysis of OMICs data especially Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)

e)      Develop private and public biological genomic and proteomic databases

f)       Conducts bioinformatics analysis on genomics data

g)      Construct GitHub and maintain the code in GitHub

h)      Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues​

Desirable Requirements

Preferred qualifications are underlined:
1.      PhD in biomedical science with at least 3 years of experience in software engineering OR PhD in Engineering/Computing/Physical science with at least 1 year experience in bioinformatics demonstrated by a publication of at least one article in the field of bioinformatics

2.      Experience in research and/or academic settings (published articles in the field of bioinformatics)

3.      Strong programming skills: R, Python, Perl, C++, Java, Matlab or other related programming knowledge

4.      Demonstrable experience in a UNIX environment

5.      Experience in dynamic web development (HTML5, JavaScript)

6.      Understanding of biological Data: DNA, RNA and protein sequences, expression and structures

7.      Experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data

8.      Data bases: MySQL, Microsoft Access, PostgreSQL, Oracle

9.      Experience in the development of private or public biological databases

10.  Excellent organizational and documentation skills

11.   Able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

12.   Knowledge of biological data banks (e.g., NCBI, EMBL-EBI, Ensembl, KEGG, ENCODE)

13.     Experience in statistical modelling and mathematical tools (e.g. Bayesian statistics, Markov models, simulation models)​
