Job Purpose
|
As a Laboratory Officer-Chemistry you will be responsible to supervise, maintain, and upgrade facilities, operations, and experiments in the chemistry laboratory, support faculty, students, and researchers who are using them, as well as safely test the labs and ensure proper functioning of facilities, materials, and equipment.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
1. Demonstrate the use of chemicals, tools, and equipment to lab users in the chemical laboratories.
2. Prepare the lab beforehand for lectures, demonstrations, workshops, etc. as well as support faculty members in developing new experiments and student projects to support student development. 3. Install, maintain, troubleshoot and update laboratory software and demonstrate how to use them, as well as oversee the cleanliness and tidiness of the Laboratory at all times.
4. Manage and supervise lab facilities by making sure that the equipment and machines are in good working order and recommend improvements as appropriate to maintain standards of accuracy and reliability.
5. Coordinate with the college/department administration in arranging appropriate schedules in order to conduct weekly classes.
6. Participate in invigilating student examinations, co-instructing practical sessions, and help marking exams when required.
7. Ensure and reinforce follow-through of safety standards and protocols in the laboratory, and implement safety training for both faculty and students. 8. Keep up-to-date with related developments and advancements in the market in order to improve the university’s presence and implement any required administrative, technical, or functional enhancements. As well as proactively seek out opportunities to build capability and identify where developing know-how can drive improved business outcomes.

Required Skills
|
▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
▪ Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
▪ Good laboratory management, including knowledge of basic lab principles and applications as well as methods, equipment, materials, and facilities.
▪ Demonstrate a good understanding of operating the required software/hardware.
▪ Able to understand the meaning of common error messages and explain them to users in simple language.
▪ Good analytical and critical thinking skills.

Desirable Requirements
|
▪ Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant Chemistry discipline.
▪ 2-4 years of UAE experience in a similar role, preferably in higher education institutions.
▪ Priority is to UAE Nationals.
