Job Purpose

​As a​​ Technician-Laboratory you are requested to handle maintenance, repair, and commissioning of various lab equipment, distribute and maintain laboratory supplementary tools and components to students, as well as ensure efficient operation of computers and related course software.
Main accountabilities & expectations

​1. Assist students in handling and operating lab equipment during and after classes, as well as in building prototypes for course projects or senior design projects.

2. Ensure that all electrical outlets and connections are functioning properly, and report any issues and maintenance requests to the concerned person/department.
3. Monitor lab facilities, making sure that the equipment, machines and connections are in good working condition. As well as initiate and follow up any trouble-shooting or maintenance requests with the concerned person/department.
4. Prepare the lab beforehand for lectures, demonstrations, workshops, etc. as well as support faculty members in developing new experiments and student projects to support student development.
5. Follow up on new lab equipment requests with the concerned departments and prepare technical evaluation reports for new equipment quotations in collaboration with other faculty or staff members.
6. Maintain and update laboratory inventory by ordering laboratory equipment and consumables as per required specifications.
7. Ensure and reinforce follow through of safety standards and protocols in the laboratory, and implement safety training for both faculty and students.

Required Skills
▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
▪ Good laboratory management including knowledge of basic lab principles and applications as well as methods, equipment, materials and facilities.
▪ Demonstrate a good understanding of operating the required software/hardware
▪ Able to understand the meaning of common error messages and explain them to users in simple language.
▪ Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines.
▪ High integrity and openness combined with a commitment to good governance
▪ Use technical knowledge to help and assist users in overcoming any difficulties.
▪ Flexibility and ability to function effectively as part of a team.​
Desirable Requirements

​▪ Minimum of a diploma in a relevant discipline.

▪ 2-4 years of UAE experience in a similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
▪ Priority is to UAE Nationals.
