The Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sharjah (UOS) invites applications for the position of Head/Chair of the Department, which will commence at the beginning of Fall 2016. Candidates with extensive experience in teaching, research, and administration in the areas of Applied Physics and Astronomy are welcome to apply. The department of Applied Physics and Astronomy offers an undergraduate degree in Applied Physics and a new degree in Petroleum and Geosciences to start in the fall 2016. The department provides a rich environment for research in a variety of topics. The department is the main sponsor of the new Sharjah Research Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences. Physics is one 5 constituent departments that include Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Chemistry.
Applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. in the field of Applied Physics and Astronomy and should be able to demonstrate: An established record of research and publishing research; experience in curriculum development, budgeting resources, and faculty/staff evaluation; a proven track record in leadership and successful administration; familiarity with the accreditation process; and the intellectual resources to motivate faculty towards professional development. The successful candidate will also have a clear vision for the future development of the department. Experience working in a multi-cultural work environment is considered highly desirable.
