Department Rise - Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering
Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Research Group focused on the development of next-generation membrane materials for water desalination and purification. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing sustainable water treatment technologies by designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel membrane materials with enhanced selectivity, permeability, and resistance to fouling. Applicants from the fields of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering are welcome to apply. Experience in research is required.

Main accountabilities & expectations
  • Follow all University policies and regulations for safe working procedures
  • Conduct research in the Water Desalination and Treatment fields, including writing literature reviews, conducting experiments, and other related processes.
  • Help in the administration work related to the research group, including writing the reports and ordering new hardware and software tools.
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, reports, and patents related to membrane development.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on membrane materials for water desalination and water treatment (e.g., reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, forward osmosis, membrane distillation, CDI, etc.).
  • Design, synthesize, and characterize polymeric, hybrid, or nanocomposite membranes with tailored surface and structural properties.
  • Employ advanced analytical techniques (SEM, TEM, AFM, XPS, FTIR, TGA, etc.) to evaluate membrane morphology, chemistry, and performance.
  • Perform water transport and salt rejection tests, including long-term performance and fouling resistance studies.

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in related projects.

  • Collaborate with theoretical and modeling groups to correlate membrane structure, property relationships.

  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.

Required Skills
  • Advanced knowledge in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or related disciplines.

  • Expertise in membrane science and technology, polymer chemistry, or nanomaterials.

  • Proficiency in membrane fabrication techniques (interfacial polymerization, phase inversion, electrospinning).

  • Competence in materials characterization and membrane performance testing.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience with computational modeling or molecular simulations (desirable).

  • Knowledge of scaling up membrane fabrication or pilot-scale desalination systems (desirable).

  • Track record of publications in high-impact journals related to membranes or water treatment (desirable).

Desirable Requirements

Educational background in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
