Post-Doctoral researcher in stem cell research
CATEGORY Research
College Departments
Department Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences
Job Purpose The Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) at the University of Sharjah is seeking a motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Scientist with strong experience in stem cell research to join the Stem Cell Research Group. The successful candidate will plan and execute high-quality research aligned with the theme “Stem cell and tissue regeneration ”. Required expertise includes maintenance and directed differentiation of human stem cells, organoid/3D culture development, and functional assays. Molecular and cell biology techniques (phenotypic screening, Western blot, immunofluorescence, RT qPCR, cell cycle and apoptosis assays), RNAi/siRNA for knock out/knock down, and proficiency with cytometry and imaging (multicolor flow cytometry, confocal/live cell microscopy). Licensed experience in small animal handling and in vivo experimentation (e.g., transplantation/engraftment models) is a plus. Experience in computational analysis of biomedical and multi omics data relevant to stem cell systems (whole genome/exome sequencing, epigenomics, transcriptomics including single cell, proteomics, metabolomics) and familiarity with NGS bioinformatics tools supporting precision/regenerative medicine are encouraged; experience in clinical or translational research is desirable.
Main accountabilities & expectations

The responsibilities of the post-doctoral researcher will include and will not be limited to:

  • Design and execute research projects within the theme of stem-cell research
  • Use and maintain major equipment available at RIMHS that are essential for his/her work
  • Conduct experiments involving molecular biology techniques, NGS, library construction, and data generation
  • Prepare project proposals, present results at meetings, and publish results in scientific manuscripts
  • Improve experimental design and perform basic pathway and network analysis using graph-theoretic approaches
  • Training/supervising students and project participants
  • Assist in data analysis and design of future projects, writing up of proposals and/or publications in high impact factor journals
  • Assist in administrative tasks, preparation of applications, reports and presentations related to his/her projects and/or other related tasks
  • Outreach for collaboration/partnership with community organizations both at the national and international levels, in a way that would serve the overall research group objectives
Required Skills
  • Human stem cell work: iPSC/ESC and adult stem/progenitor culture, directed differentiation, organoids, and RNAi/siRNA knock out/knock down; transfection/electroporation; high throughput phenotypic screening.
  • Molecular and imaging: Western blot, RT qPCR (protein/RNA/miRNA), flow cytometry (stemness/differentiation panels), confocal/live cell imaging; cell cycle/apoptosis; clonogenic/functional assays; pluripotency and genomic stability QC.
  • Computational genomics: Track record in stem cell/regenerative medicine, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics; trajectory inference and lineage/barcoding familiarity.
  • In vivo: Small animal handling and establishment of stem cell engraftment/disease/regeneration models (e.g., teratoma assays)
Desirable Requirements

  • PhD in Cell Biology or related field with relevant experience (recent graduates encouraged to apply).
  • Two years Postdoctoral training in a well-established institute.
  • Publication(s) in stem cell biology field is desirable.
