Job Purpose
|
The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, seeks applications for full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with appointments beginning in the Fall semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.
Candidates must possess a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences, Food Science, Food Technology, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching and academic achievement, as well as an active research profile focused on the intersection of food safety and environmental health.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
- Deliver high-quality teaching at both BSc and MSc levels in Environmental Health Sciences, with emphasis on food safety and quality management, food laws and regulations, pesticides and environmental pollution, vector control, food chemistry and analysis, advanced research methodology, and environmental health risk assessment, ensuring alignment with international standards and industry needs.
- Incorporate innovative teaching approaches, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in food safety and quality systems.
- Design, supervise, and deliver laboratory sessions in food safety and analytical techniques, ensuring adherence to laboratory safety regulations, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and quality assurance standards.
- Develop and sustain a productive, externally funded research program in food safety, food contaminants, emerging technologies, or related areas.
- Supervise MSc theses and undergraduate research projects, fostering critical thinking, scientific rigor, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed international journals.
- Seek competitive research funding and establish collaborative partnerships with regulatory authorities, food industries, and research institutions.
- Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation processes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives in alignment with national and international academic standards.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students, supporting their academic progression and professional development.
- Participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees, and contribute to institutional service and community engagement activities.

- Fluency in English with excellent professional written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with the ability to design comprehensive course materials, define measurable learning outcomes, and implement diverse and effective assessment strategies.
- Strong computer proficiency, including advanced use of Microsoft Office applications and academic learning management systems.
- Proven research expertise, including study design, statistical data analysis, scientific writing, and publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and guide undergraduate and graduate students in academic and research activities.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills, including coordination of laboratory sessions, field training, and academic programs.
- Proficiency in regulatory analysis and interpretation of food safety standards, quality management systems, and relevant national and international food laws.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural academic and research teams.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Environmental Health Sciences, Food Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Specialization in Food Safety and related discipline is highly desirable.
- Minimum of three (3) years of university-level teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
- Evidence of an active recent research profile, including publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences, seminars, and related academic forums.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research projects and MSc thesis.

Desirable Requirements
|
- Experience teaching one or more of the following is highly desirable: food safety and quality management, food laws and regulations, pesticides and environmental pollution, vector control, and food chemistry and analysis.
- Experience introducing AI component, computer modelling to the EHS discipline and courses is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in securing or applying for competitive research funding is desirable.
- Experience in collaborating with regulatory authorities, industry stakeholders, or governmental organizations in environmental health or food safety domains is advantageous.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies and engagement in continuing professional development activities is desirable.
