Job Purpose

The Laboratory Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the College's educational and research mission by ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of its laboratories. This position involves providing technical expertise, maintaining equipment, assisting students and faculty, and upholding stringent safety standards. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a strong technical background and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment.

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
1. Provide technical support to students and instructors on lab hardware, software, peripherals, and mixed lab facilities during experiments.
2. Guide students in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data and writing technical reports.
3. Manage all lab-related activities, processes, and procedures.
4. Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain lab software, hardware, and peripheral devices, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and copyright legislation.
5. Ensure the accurate installation and proper operation of new equipment and experimental units.
6. Develop and maintain experiment manuals and lab safety plans, incorporating information from previous experiments to ensure high safety levels.
7. Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and protocols in all labs, and implement safety training programs for faculty and students.
8. Supervise lab sessions, lab examinations and assist in grading student lab reports.
9. Assist faculty members in various course activities, including practical classes, student assignments, grading, attendance, and exam invigilation.
10. Maintain and update the laboratory inventory by requesting equipment, consumables, and furniture according to specifications.

Required Skills
|
▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
▪ Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
▪ Familiarity with necessary programs and/or computer software.
▪ Good experience using relevant laboratory equipment, testing, troubleshooting, calibration and operation techniques.
▪ Good project and time management skills.
