Job Purpose
|
As a Research Assistant in the Human Genetics and Stem Cells research group, you are expected to maintain the Tissue Culture and Genetics laboratories, ensuring their efficient operation and upkeep. You will be responsible for ordering materials upon request from group members and supporting laboratory workflows. This role requires expertise in DNA extraction, real-time PCR, genotyping, sequencing, BLAST analysis, RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing (NGS), protein extraction and quantification, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence. You are also expected to perform tissue culture techniques, including stem cell growth and differentiation, media preparation, and cryopreservation of stem cells. |

Main accountabilities & expectations
|
- Able to extract DNA and RNA from stem cells, saliva, and blood samples.
- Capable of culturing stem cells and differentiating them into other cell types.
- Proficient in performing protein extraction, quantification, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence.
- Competent in conducting real-time PCR amplification and DNA purification.
- Responsible for ordering consumables for both the tissue culture and general laboratories.

- Educational background in molecular genetics and cell biology or related
disciplines.
