Job Purpose

​

The appointee should be able to support the Department of History and Islamic Civilization to capitalise on the significant progress it has made so far and contribute to the academic life of the University of Sharjah, nationally and internationally. The appointee(s) should be able to enrich the Department's research agenda, expand its teaching programs, and undertake graduate supervision.

Applications are sought from eminent candidates who can enhance the Department's research, education, and societal impact within the field of Arab modern and Contemporary History.

Research and teaching in the Department are methodologically and theoretically diverse, and we expect candidates to be able and willing to engage in intellectual exchanges across a range of Arab history topics within the discipline.

Main accountabilities & expectations

​

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students the applicant's field of specialization
  • Providing academic advising for students.
  • Conducting scientific research in the field of specialization.
  • Contributing to the activities and committees of the department.
  • Supporting the activities that serve the university and the community.
  • Contributing to the efforts of academic accreditation and quality assurance.
Required Skills
We seek candidates who have:

o the ability to develop and lead high-quality 
        research 
o good skills in using computers.
o fluency in Arabic and English (speaking and                      writing).
Desirable Requirements

​A PhD in Arab Modern & Contemporary History.  

obtained a doctorate in Arab Modern & Contemporary History from one of the recognized universities in the field of specialization.

experience in university teaching in the field of specialization (8 years at least). 

published in high quality refereed journals in the specialty.

good knowledge of academic accreditation requirements and procedures.
