Job Purpose

As the Editor and a member of the Media Center team, you are expected to plan, coordinate, and revise material for publication used on various media platforms managed by the Media Center such as magazines, brochures, social media advertisements, etc. as well as ensure the accuracy and quality of the written materials.​

Main accountabilities & expectations

  •  Review and understand all relevant media, marketing and branding policies and procedures in order to be able to carry out daily work tasks as expected, and answer all stakeholder inquiries, clarifications, or any assistance accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop ideas for media content, as well as modify and rewrite written material, correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
  • Help set publication standards and establish goals and expectations, as well as adhere to UOS's specific writing style guides.
  • Brainstorm new stories, series, concepts, themes, and formats. As well as suggest stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with targeted audience's preferences.
  • Review and evaluate written articles submitted by student, faculty and staff members.
  • Edit written material for accuracy, style and readability, as well as recommend changes where necessary.
  • Verify facts cited in written material before publication to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Write articles and work in conjunction with other writers, assigns stories, and prepares news and general feature articles for publication.
  • Ensure publication and production of a variety of materials from on-campus services and activities.
  • Develop and maintain new outlets for publication(s), such as updating, revising or creating mailing lists in order to reach a wider audience.
  • Allocate space for the text, photos, and illustrations that make up a story or content for the Media Center and University's publications.
  • Proofread and review content before submitting publications to the authorized print house or publisher to ensure accuracy and eliminate errors.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues in order to complete work tasks, answer questions and provide assistance.​

Required Skills
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
  • Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Strong grasp of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.​
Desirable Requirements

​​​

  • Minimum of bachelor's in Journalism, Media, Mass Communication, or any related Media discipline.
  • 2-4 years of UAE experience in a similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
  • Priority is to UAE Nationals.​​
