Job Purpose

The Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in Artificial Intelligence applications in Civil Engineering and Smart Infrastructure. The successful candidate will join the Sustainable Civil Infrastructure Systems (SCIS) Research Group, contributing to cutting-edge research at the intersection of digital technologies and resilient infrastructure systems.

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering and demonstrated expertise in the following areas:

  1. Advanced modeling, analysis, and optimization of smart civil infrastructure systems.
  2. Artificial Intelligence/machine learning applications in civil engineering.
  3. Emerging digital technologies for smart infrastructure, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Remote Sensing.
  4. Data analytics, deep learning, and advanced statistical methods for large-scale infrastructure data processing and predictive modeling.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong research capabilities, interdisciplinary collaboration skills, and a commitment to advancing innovative, technology-driven solutions for sustainable and intelligent infrastructure systems.


Main accountabilities & expectations

  • Contribute actively to assigned research projects in close collaboration with members of the SCIS Research Group, including proposing innovative research ideas aligned with group themes.

  • Develop and implement research methodologies, including model development, experimental design, data collection, processing, coding, and verification of research data.

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and maintain organized research databases to ensure accurate data archiving, tracking, and analysis.

  • Prepare and support scholarly outputs, including drafting and editing research manuscripts for journals and conferences, as well as contributing to the development of research proposals and grant applications.

  • Participate in regular research meetings, contributing to discussions on grant preparation, manuscript development, quality assurance, and protocol design or revision.

  • Engage in continuous professional development through participation in case conferences, educational programs, workshops, seminars, and related academic activities.

  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations and institutional procedures, while working collaboratively within a team environment and supporting colleagues and supervisors as required.

Required Skills
  • Excellent command of relevant technical domains within the specified areas of specialization.

  • Strong data processing and analytical skills, including data collection, analysis, and quality assurance.

  • Proficiency in relevant technical and analytical software, such as MATLAB, Python (including machine learning and AI applications), and other data analysis tools.

  • Sound knowledge of statistical analysis and statistical software, including XLStat, Minitab, Statgraphics, and SPSS.

  • Excellent English communication skills, with strong writing, interpersonal, and training capabilities.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and communicate operational procedures effectively.

  • Demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to monitor performance and provide constructive feedback.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to exercise sound judgment in dynamic environments.

  • Technical proficiency in installing and maintaining specialized hardware and software relevant to the area of expertise.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and research participants.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.


Desirable Requirements

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Civil Engineering from a recognized and accredited institution.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and related computer skills.

  • Prior experience within an academic or higher education environment in a similar setting is considered an asset.
