Job Purpose

The Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) is currently recruiting a laboratory technician in Human Disease Biomarker Discovery Research Group (HDBD-RG). The ideal candidate should hold a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences/Bioanalytical field or Molecular Medicine and Transitional Research. He/she is expected to plan and execute quality research work related to the main theme “Identification and translation of novel biomarkers for human disease diagnosis and drug treatment”. The applicant should master employing high resolution mass spectrometry and other chromatographic techniques to identify and validate novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitor drug treatment for human disease (e.g. cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiometabolic disorders and infectious diseases).  The candidate should be expert in protein, metabolite, lipid sample handling (e.g. protein/metabolite/lipid extraction from biological fluids and tissue samples; protein quantification; tryptic digestion in solution/FASP). Large scale data analysis using processing/bioinformatics tools such as Maxquant, Perseus, Skyline and others is needed.  Direct experience in targeted protein/metabolite quantitative mass spectrometry-based assays and experience in metabolomics/lipidomics/ MALDI-imaging will be an advantage.

Main accountabilities & expectations

  • Perform assigned experimental tasks and technical activities related to ongoing research projects within the group.

  • Design and implement mass spectrometry–based experimental workflows aimed at the discovery and characterization of novel disease biomarkers.

  • Develop, optimize, and validate biological sample preparation protocols for mass spectrometry and related analytical platforms.

  • Conduct data acquisition, collation, and quantitative analysis of mass spectrometry datasets using appropriate analytical and bioinformatics tools.

  • Execute and maintain the core experimental procedures and laboratory-based research activities, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and adherence to established protocols.

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced analytical instrumentation, including mass spectrometry systems and associated laboratory equipment.

  • Acquire technical training and certification required for the operation of newly introduced laboratory instruments and analytical technologies.

  • Prepare, organize, and present experimental results, analytical outputs, and technical reports to the research group leadership on a regular basis.

  • Provide technical training and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate students in laboratory techniques, instrumentation use, and experimental protocols.

  • Implement and adhere to laboratory safety procedures and emergency response protocols during experimental operations.

  • Contribute to experimental design, methodological development, and technical documentation supporting research proposals and scientific publications.

  • Support technical research activities within the institute, including specialized workshops, methodological training sessions, and scientific presentations related to laboratory techniques and analytical technologies.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry and chromatographic separation techniques relevant to biomarker research.

  • Experience in targeted and untargeted multi-omics analysis of biological samples.

  • Ability to perform sample and reagent preparation, instrument calibration, and quality control procedures.

  • Competence in instrument system checks and maintaining proper technical documentation.

  • Experience in analysis of large-scale quantitative omics data, including proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics.

  • Ability to provide technical training to laboratory staff and students.

  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills in English.
