Job Purpose
|
The
Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Sharjah invites
applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics with significant
experience teaching at Undergraduate level and a growing research profile
appropriate to their career stage.
|
|
Main accountabilities & expectations
|
The
successful candidate will be expected to :
- Teach undergraduate courses in applied
linguistics, EAP, ESP, and communicative English.
- Produce high
quality research consistent with the level of appointment.
- Fulfil such
administrative duties as the department chair or other university authorities
appoint to them.

|
Required Skills
|
- The
successful candidate should have a PhD in Linguistics and Translation and specialize in one or more of the following areas of
research and teaching: AI in teaching, comparative semantics, multimodality,
translation and technology, historical linguistics.
- They will also be able to
teach English for Academic Purposes and ESP, and to coordinate multi-section
courses.
- Ability to teach English for Academic Purposes and ESP is essential.

Desirable Requirements
|
- Experience coordinating multi-section courses would be an advantage.

Additional certification (esp. CELTA or use of AI in Education) would be an advantage.

Further specialism in one or more of the following areas is desirable: multimodality, comparative semantics, translation and technology, or related applied linguistics fields.
