Job Purpose

The Department of Mass Communication at the College of Communication, University of Sharjah, UAE, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Digital Media Design.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and accomplished scholar with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will join our vibrant and diverse department, contributing to the academic and professional growth of our students.

The appointment is for the Fall Semester (August 2026) of the Academic year 2026-2027.

Main accountabilities & expectations

  1. Be an active researcher with a proven record of high-quality publications in Scopus-indexed Journals, focusing on media, communication, and design (at least 2 Scopus publications during the current contract)
  2. Teach undergraduate courses in Digital Media Design in Arabic and English, including but not limited to Visual Communication, Motion Graphics, 3D Design, Animation (introductory and advanced), Infographics, Web and Interactive Design, and AI Applications in Creative Media.
  3. Integrate design thinking methodologies into teaching, emphasizing conceptual development, user-centered design, visual culture theory, platform affordances, and audience engagement principles
  4. Employ innovative, project-based, and research-informed pedagogies that balance technical proficiency with critical and theoretical grounding.
  5. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in industry-standard design and production software, including Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro); 3D and Motion Graphics tools (e.g., Cinema 4D or equivalent); Professional 2D Animation software (e.g., Toon Boom Harmony or equivalent); Web and Interactive Design platforms (e.g., Adobe XD, Webflow, or equivalent)
  6. Familiarity with AI-driven creative tools and data visualization applications for digital storytelling and infographics.
  7. Contribute to the department's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, research, and service.
  8. Efficiently handle advising tasks.
  9. Advise and mentor students in academic and career development, including research projects and internships.​

Required Skills
  1. A Ph.D. in Media production or a related field from a reputable university.
  2. Evidence of successful teaching, advising, and service effectiveness.
  3. A record of professional integrity, collegiality, and a commitment to diversity.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative engagement within the department and university, as well as building connections with national/international professionals, businesses, and alumni. 
  5. Bilingual teaching proficiency in English and Arabic languages.​
