Job Purpose

As a Laboratory Support Officer​ you are requested to supervise, maintain and upgrade the laboratory facilities, support faculty and students who are using them, as well as safely test the labs and assure proper functioning of facilities, materials and equipment​

Main accountabilities & expectations

1. Prepare experiments for lab sessions and participate in the application and development of these experiments with faculty members while ensuring all safety requirements are implemented at all times.
2. Provide technical support to lab users and assist in lab hardware/software usage as well as the use of the various labs facilities and devices.
3. Maintain and update laboratory inventory by ordering laboratory equipment and consumables as per required specifications.
4. Manage and supervise lab facilities by making sure that the equipment and machines are in good working order and recommends improvements as appropriate to maintain standards of accuracy and reliability.
5. Store, maintain and use radiation sources and radiation equipment safely for experiments.
6. Ensure and reinforce follow through of safety standards and protocols in the laboratory, and implement safety training for both faculty and students.
7. Coordinate with the college administration in arranging appropriate schedules in order to conduct weekly classes.
8. Participate in invigilating student examinations, co-instructing practical sessions, and help mark exams when required.​

Required Skills

▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
▪ Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
▪ Good laboratory management including knowledge of basic lab principles and applications as well as methods, equipment, materials and facilities.
▪ Demonstrate a good understanding of operating the required software/hardware
▪ Able to understand the meaning of common error messages and explain them to users in simple language.
▪ Good knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application.​




Desirable Requirements

▪ Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics, Astronomy or any similar discipline.
▪ 2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
▪ Priority is to UAE Nationals.​
